All about Immigration DNA Testing
The Resources You Need to Find Immigration DNA Tests
People from all parts of the world attempt to migrate to our country and realize their hopes and dreams. Currently, the US allows its citizens to petition for immediate family members to immigrate here. In some cases, the petitioners lack enough supporting evidence to prove that they are immediate family members. Under these circumstances, performing DNA testing for immigration cases is the best route to take.
The US is home to millions of immigrants from all over the world. Many people know our country as perhaps the freest and most prosperous country in the world. The United States is the land of opportunity for all. Actually, the Global Wealth Report 2018 states that if you make over $32,000 – you’re already in the top 1% of all income-earners in the world! Given the median household income hovers around $60,000…this means most of us make the cut. Hence, it’s no surprise that hundreds of thousands of people attempt to immigrate to the US each year.
Fortunately, tools like DNA testing assist us in proving biological relationships between petitioners and beneficiaries. However, take note that the process for these tests requires following each step closely. Proceeding with caution, learning about the process, and abiding by the USCIS and Bureau of Consular Affairs’ regulations is the safest way to obtain a visa. Conversely, failing to abide by the correct process potentially invalidates the application.
Resources Regarding DNA Testing for Immigration Cases
United States Citizenship And Immigration Services (USCIS):
The USCIS is a department of homeland security that administers immigration and naturalization services. Here you find valuable resources that help to; find your local immigration office, check your case status, check application processing times and even tools to help you study for an immigration test.
American Association Of Blood Banks (AABB)
The United States Bureau of Consular Affairs exclusively accepts DNA testing results produced by laboratories certified by the American Association of Blood Banks. Hence, if you are not performing DNA testing for immigration cases through an AABB-accredited DNA testing lab, the results will be thrown out. As a result, it’s important to learn which DNA testing labs are actually certified by the AABB.
Some Helpful Tips Regarding DNA Testing for Immigration Cases
Again, we are stressing the importance of following the prescribed process carefully. Deviating from the Bureau of Consular Affairs or USCIS required steps potentially invalidates your application. This leaves your family member stranded while waiting for the processing to commence again. Here are a few tips to remember:
Only contact AABB-certified DNA testing sites. Do not contact a third-party broker for these purposes.
The US Embassy of the beneficiary’s country requires payment before collecting the beneficiary’s DNA. Furthermore, they provide the beneficiary with a receipt after paying the collection fees. The Embassy requires taking this receipt along with a photo ID to the collection appointment. Failing to bring this receipt prompts the Embassy to reschedule the DNA sample collection. Be sure to remind them to take their receipt to avoid any unnecessary delays in processing the application.
Utilizing home DNA test kits is not allowed as a means of DNA testing for immigration cases. Also, the petitioner’s DNA sample must be collected by the AABB DNA testing laboratory. Finally, the beneficiary’s DNA sample must be collected directly by the Embassy physician or medical technician.
The US Burueau of Consular affairs prohibits the petitioner from receiving his DNA testing kit directly. All DNA testing for immigration cases must be performed at the AABB DNA testing site while being supervised by their staff. Deviating from these procedures potentially invalidates the results.
